Short Men Wearing High-Heel Shoes

Question

AssalamuWalaikum. My son is 14 years old and only 5 feet 1 inches tall. He has begun to have confidence issues because of it as everyone keeps asking him about it to the extent that he has started avoiding going out or meeting people. His younger brother is taller than him and that is also becoming a problem at home. Under the circumstances, is it permissible for me to buy him some elevator shoes or shoes with concealed heels? He could gain maybe a couple of inches or less from it but it would boost his confidence a lot. Or would it fall under the category of deception? Please help a distressed mother!

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

There is nothing wrong with your son wearing high-heel shoes or sandals; the basic principle is that wearing them is permissible for the sick and the healthy. Therefore, it is not forbidden for a man to wear high-heel shoes if there is no harm in wearing them and there is no imitation of women or non- Muslims.

Allah knows best.
