Taking Body Hair for Transplant for Balding

Question

Assalaamu Alaikum,For hairtransplant for balding on head they use hair from the side and back of the head. If this is not enough, they can use hair from the underside of chin (beard), chest, shoulders or back. Is this allowed?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We have already mentioned in many Fatawa the permissibility of hair transplantation for a bald person because this is a matter of treatment and removal of the defect.

Sheikh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen may Allaah have mercy upon him was asked about the ruling on hair transplant for a bald person by taking hair from the back of the head and planting it in the affected area. Is that permissible?

He replied: Yes, it is permissible. Because this is a matter of bringing back what Allah The Almighty has created and removing a defect, and it is not a matter of beautifying or adding to what Allah The Almighty has created. So, it is not considered as changing Allah’s creation. Instead, it is bringing back what is lacking and removing the defect.” [End of quote]

There is no harm in taking a hair sample from the sides of the head, the front, the chest, the back, or the shoulders to grow it in the place of baldness because the Sharee’ah does not prevent taking from the hair of those parts. It is also permissible to take from the hair of the neck and what is below the chin, except the hair that grows on the bone of the chin itself, which is part of the beard. We do not see that it is permissible to take from it as long as there was a good amount in other parts of the hair of the rest of the body, as it was reported in the Sunnah to let the beard grow as it is.

Allah knows best.
