Eating from Meat of Animal Slaughtered by Father with His Haram Income

Question

If my father slaughters an animal with his haram income, is it halal for me to have that animals meat?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

There are some details regarding eating from this meat purchased from your father's Haram (forbidden) money, which is, if his money is mixed, there is nothing wrong with you benefiting from it by taking this meat or other expenses. The view that we consider to be preponderant at Islamweb is that it is permissible to deal with the owner of mixed money with dislikeability, which intensifies and weakens according to the abundance of what is forbidden in it or what is little.

But if all his money is Haram, it is not permissible for you to benefit from it by taking this meat or other expenses except as much as necessary. If you can do away without it with some Halal (lawful) money or Halal earning, then you must stop taking from it.

However, some scholars are of the view that it is permissible to benefit from it, because the prohibition of the money is related to the one who earned it and not with the money itself.

At-Taj wal Ikleel reads: “Ibn Abu Zayd said: 'The view of Malik and the scholars of Madeenah, is that whoever has ill-gotten money, and he purchases a house with it …, then it is acceptable for one to purchase that house from the one who had purchased it with ill-gotten money.' Ibn Rushd said: ‘This is because the prohibition is related to the seller.’” [End of quote]

Allah knows best.
