Question

I would like to ask you about [salat elgamaah] congregation prayer for women: is it [fard] or sunnah? May God reward you for this great web site. That is all.

Accepted Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Congregational prayer is not compulsory on women. If a woman wants to perform the prayer with her daughters or with other sisters who came to visit her, then it is permissible for her to do so. If she is the one leading the prayer, she should stand in the middle of the row and raise her voice only to the extent which other women may hear her, but she should not raise her voice very loudly.
