What does Hadith say about hypocrites?
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
There are many Ahadith, which describe the characteristics of hypocrites. Here are some of them. The Prophet said: "Whoever has (the following) four characteristics will be a pure hypocrite: "If he speaks, he tells a lie; if he gives a promise, he breaks it, if he makes a covenant he proves treacherous; and if he quarrels, he behaves in a very imprudent evil insulting manner (unjust). And whoever has one of these characteristics, has one characteristic of a hypocrite, unless he gives it up".
Imam Ahmad narrated that the Prophet said: "Hypocrites have certain characteristics; they are known by them, their greetings are curse, their food is loot, their booty is treason. They do not visit mosques except midday and do not come to prayers willingly. They are arrogant, neither are they on intimate terms with others nor do others get along with them. They do not worship in night and make noise in the day".
It is narrated in Sahih Muslim that the Prophet said: "The similitude of a hypocrite is that of a sheep which roams aimlessly between two flocks. She goes to one at one time and to the other at another time.
