Explaining Islam to Non-Muslims

Question

I live in Canada, and of course I am surrounded by non-Muslims. Whenever I try to explain to them Islam they say that this is for the old generations. I have difficulty explaining to them that it also concerns our generation. The non-believers say that being gay is natural. But for sure I don't believe it because why would Allah punish them if it was normal. How can I answer to them?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Islam is the religion of knowledge of the wisdom behind the creation of man, the reality of life, the Creator and His Attributes, how to worship Him and the reality of death, the reality of the future of man after death, the realities which govern the life of people, what is good for them and what is bad for their lives as individuals and communities or groups.

This knowledge was needed by man and was revealed as a guidance from our Creator because it was beyond the cognitive map of knowledge of the human beings. The religion of Islam is a religion to guide all people and for all time. Indeed, the religion is concerned with the Fitrah (natural predisposition upon which Allah created mankind). This Fitrah has not changed throughout the history of mankind. In fact, man's organs are still the same and their potentialities have not changed. The work of the cellular tissue, for instance, is still the same. The psychological formation is still the same. All men love, hate, obey, desire and they have been like that since the very beginning of mankind. So, today we are faced with a man who was created in the same way with the same lack of information and the same Fitrah and religion (Islam), which is to guide and direct this unique Fitrah of all mankind in all ages.

In fact, religion is bound to this Fitrah as Allah Says (what means): {So direct your face toward the religion, inclining to truth. [Adhere to] the fitrah of Allah upon which He has created [all] people. No change should there be in the creation of Allah. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know.} [Quran 30: 30]

Islam is the religion for all time until the Day of Judgement when no other religion will be accepted. In Islam, new inventions and technologies are encouraged as long as they do not interfere with the call for man to be informed of and obey Allah's Commands for him.

It is significant that some scientists become Muslims after they have read the Quran and Sunnah.
