Scholars Declaring a Leader that Muslims Should Follow

Question

Why don't the famous religious men make a group any where and just state that they are the leaders and the Arabs should follow only them and its a sin to follow the present Arab leaders and if the people don't reply then we know what liars we are?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The entire Muslim Ummah is entrusted with the duty of establishing the religion on the earth; the Muslim scholars are only a part of this Ummah not the whole Ummah. Many of them, praise be to Allah, have been carrying out their obligation. The libraries and bookshops are full of their books urging the Ummah to rise up to carry out its important mission. They speak loudly from many platforms asking the Ummah to get up to fulfill its obligation. Their struggle against hypocrites and deviants is so well-known that a just person cannot deny it, though their efforts vary from one scholar to another.

When the Ummah in its awareness and consciousness reaches the proper stage, and knows its importance, the scholars, no doubt, will lead it to those aspirations; however, many steps still remain to reach that point.

Any premature decisions in this concern would cause distress and trials that many Muslims cannot bear. Therefore, weighing the benefits and harms is compulsory; it is the method of Muslim scholars in healing the wounds of the Muslim Ummah.

Furthermore, all the individuals and groups should gather around their scholars and should know their rights since the power of a scholar depends on the power of his followers.

Finally, we ask Allah to guide all of us to be in the service of His Religion.

Allah knows best.
