Question
Is it right to pray with your eyeglasses on? They may make it impossible to have your forehead and nose on the ground when you do "Sujood", prostrate.
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
We see many people prostrate on their foreheads and noses while they wear eyeglasses. We think this is possible and normal.
However, if one cannot put his forehead or nose on the earth due to eyeglasses, his prayer is not valid. Hafiz Ibn Hajar said: 'Imam al-Munziri reported that all the companions of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) have agreed upon that prostration on nose only is not sufficient'.
Majority of the Muslim scholars believe that making prostration only on forehead is sufficient. al-Awzai , Ahmad , Ishaq and others are of the opinion that prostration should be made on both forehead and nose. It is also one of the sayings of Imam al-Shafi'e .
