Fatwa CenterClaiming to be better than everyone except the Prophet
Question
Can anyone in our time claim that the leader of his Islamic party or his Sheikh is better than the Prophet' s Companions or better than everybody except the Prophet, and claim that this has been proved by dreams?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
It is forbidden to say that a given person from the generations that came after the Companions of the Prophet is better than them because Allaah The Almighty was pleased with them and they were pleased with Him. The Prophet declared that some of them will go to Paradise, such as the four Rightly-Guided Caliphs. Thus, saying that there is any person among the people who came after the Companions who is better or worthier than them is a misconception and a form of plain deviation. In fact, any person who says so has to repent to Allaah The Almighty for such a heinous statement.
