In Salih Ibn Uthaymeen's book about prayer "Al-Sharh Al-Mumti" I've found a Hadith from Wail bin Hujr that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) used to support himself while he was getting up in prayer on his knees while his hands were on his thighs. So my question is who recorded this Hadith and is this Saheeh Hadith?
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. The Hadith narrated by Wail bin Hujr is the evidence that the great scholar Sheikh Ibn Uthaimeen (May Allah have His Mercy of upon him) and al-Hanabilah, put forward to prove that a person, in prayer, should rise from the prostration leaning on his knees. The Hadith of Wail reads: I saw the messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, while going to prostration, placing his knees (on the floor) before his hands and while getting up from prostration raising his hands before his knees. Al-Shafiyah and al-Ahnaf also base their opinion on the same Hadith. al-Kattabi said This Hadith is more authentic than the Hadith that proves placing hands on the earth before knees. This position is easier for the person and looks better. Imam al-Tirmizi said This Hadith is Hasan and Gharib. We do not know anyone who reported it except Shareek. However, the most knowledgeable people act in accordance with this Hadith'. Imam al-Hakim graded it as Saheeh. He even thinks that it reached the standard laid by Muslim for the correctness of the Hadith. Imam al-Zahabi approved of it. Imam Ibn Kuzaimah and Ibn Hibban narrated it in their books of Saheeh. However, some scholars consider it as week such as Imam al-Daruqutni , Sheikh al-Bani and others. Allah knows best.
