Question
What is the Islamic view on the circumcision of girls?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
Circumcision is legislated for women and this is something desirable for them, for the general saying of the Prophet 
said: "There are five acts of Fitrah (natural disposition upon which Allaah created mankind), among which he mentioned circumcision." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] However, it is not confirmed that the Prophet specifically mentioned circumcision for women, as stated by many scholars
