Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

Allaah Says (which means): {your sister’s daughters, your [milk] mothers who nursed you, your sisters through nursing, your wives’ mothers, and your step daughters under your guardianship [born] of your wives unto whom you have gone in}[Quran 4:23].

This is part of the verse that states the females forbidden in marriage to the man. It means that if a man marries a woman who has a daughter from a previous marriage with another man, it is forbidden for him to marry that daughter if he has had sex with her mother. But if he makes a marriage contract with that woman who is the mother of that girl and divorces her before consummating the marriage, then it is lawful for him to marry her daughter afterwards.

On the other hand, the scholars do not make a difference in this respect between the daughter of that woman who was living with her at the time of the marriage contract and any other daughter she has regardless of where she lives. So, the rule applies to any daughter that woman had before marrying the said man.

Allaah Knows best.
