Putting one foot on top of the other while in prostration

Question

asalamualikum is the prayer batil if a person constantly puts his foot on top of his other foot whilst in sajda.so he only has 1 foot placed on floor in sajda. as we have imam who does it and im worried for my salah jazakallah u kahyr

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

A praying person should not raise his feet or one of them from the ground while in prostration as this is contrary to the saying of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ): "I was ordered to prostrate on seven limbs…", as we clarified in Fatwa 85270.

If he raises one of his feet or both of them, then his prayer is not void by doing so according to the view of the majority of the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them as the prostration is done by the forehead, and this is the view we adopt here in Islamweb.

However, some scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them are of the view that a person who does not prostrate on all the seven limbs, his prayer is void. If he prostrates while putting only one foot on the floor, then his prayer (according to them) is void; and this is the view of the Hanbali School of jurisprudence.

We stated this last opinion even though we do not consider it to the preponderant opinion, but just to point to the seriousness of the matter.

Therefore, the Imaam whom you mentioned in the question should prostrate on his seven limbs and he should not be negligent about this. The people who perform the prayer behind him should advise him in a good and nice manner.

Allaah Knows best.
