Fatwa CenterBride’s family having a wedding party
Question
Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullah In India brides parents use to give party for nikah, So what is the ruling on this in Islam, Is it permissible or Biddah or somekind of sin.......Please answer me this as soon as possible
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
Making the marriage public by gathering, celebrating and having a party is allowed on the condition that it should be free from violations and prohibitions which are commonly practiced, such as singing accompanied by musical instruments, brazen dance, men mixing with marriageable women, and the like. If the party is free from such matters, it is permissible for the bride family to celebrate the marriage of their daughter and to make it public.
This is allowed just to make it public and without being forced by the family of groom. If the groom or his family demand this or overburden the bride’s family by its expenses, then this is not allowed, since it comes under the ruling of consuming peoples’ money without legal right and without their consent.
