Fatwa CenterPerforming prayer while wearing a watch
Question
AS SALAMUALAIKUM WARAH MATULAA, Is it permissable to pray with my wrist watch on or monet is in my pocket?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
It is permissible for a man or a woman to perform the prayer while wearing a watch on his/her hand or having money in his/her pocket. However, if the watch has a picture of a living being, it becomes dislikeable to pray with it. It is better to get rid of that picture especially if it is drawn or engraved. Moreover, if the watch is gold-plated, it becomes forbidden for a man to wear it because it is forbidden for a man to wear gold or gold-plated items.
