Tasleem is obligatory on the one who is led in prayer

Question

do we have to say assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah each time at the end of a congregational prayer or the imam saying it suffices one from saying it?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

It is obligatory on the person led in prayer to utter Tasleem at the end of prayer, and the Imaam's Tasleem is not sufficient for him, for Tasleem is one of the obligatory duties of prayer which are not lifted from the one led in prayer. Just as the person led in prayer starts prayer with his own Takbeer, and not with the Imaam's Takbeer, he also finishes it with his own Tasleem and not with the Imaam's Tasleem.
