Fatwa CenterA daughter asking for her share in the house of her mother who is still alive
Question
Assalam u alaikum- My Mother in law owns a house and it was inherited from her fathers property. She has 3 sons and 1 daughter. Is there any chance to get the share for the lonely daughter. Please advise.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
Since the mother of your wife is still alive, then your wife has no share in the house of her mother. Therefore, it would be better not to ask this question because it indicates greediness and eagerness to inherit people who are still alive as you are looking for a way for your wife to take her portion from the house of her mother while her mother is still alive.
However, if the mother of your wife dies, then your wife inherits her share from the inheritance of her mother and no one can prevent her from it at that time.
