Beware of fortune-tellers

Question

Is there a prayer called the "inquiry prayer" that a Muslim can perform for investigating an unseen matter, noting that I do not mean Istikhaarah (guidance-seeking prayer)?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

We do not know a prayer with such a name. However, you may be aiming at knowing the future using this prayer, so be careful not to proceed with this exploration because you may be in danger as it could lead you to contacting soothsayers and thereby committing error and apostasy. No one except Allaah The Almighty knows the unseen, and trying to explore it may lead to apostasy, for knowing the unseen is exclusive to Allaah Alone, The Knower of the unseen matters. Claiming to have knowledge of the unseen necessarily goes against the Quran, in which there is a verse that says (what means): {Say: "None in the heavens and the earth knows the unseen except Allaah, nor can they perceive when they shall be resurrected."} [Quran 27:65]

Also, Allaah the Almighty Says (what means): {Which kept (slowly) gnawing away at his stick, so when he fell down, the Jinns saw clearly that if they had known the unseen, they would not have stayed in the humiliating torment.} [Quran 34:14]

Muslims nowadays are in more of a desperate need to counteract deviation, Bid‘ahs (religious innovations) and lax commitment to their religion, which should be a focus, rather than things of the unseen.

Allaah Knows best.
