Maintaining a sound Fitrah is better than acquiring knowledge from those who distort one’s religion

Question

My dear brother, I want to ask about the situation of my brother who is deaf. He finished the sixth grade and there is no suitable school for him to complete his study from the seventh grade to the second secondary grade except this school in which the director and half of its teachers are Christians. What should we do; should we enroll him in this school?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His Slave and Messenger.

It stands to reason that students are significantly and profoundly influenced by their teachers, yet, the values and principles that the teachers implant in their students challenge what the parents instill in them. They even overshadow the values implanted by the parents in many cases.

Indeed, a Christian teacher will instill in the minds of the students the values that he believes in; accordingly you may find the students later following in the foot steps of their teachers and looking up to them in many aspects.

Undeniably, the evil repercussions of losing one’s religion, values and morals, is not equal to the evil of quitting learning at school.

Hence, you should not enroll your brother in this school unless you know that those who will be teaching him will be Muslims, and that the curriculum that he will receive will engrave Islamic concepts within his heart and will not contradict the Islamic beliefs.

However, if you did not find any school that meets the previously mentioned description, then it is better for your brother to abide in his home maintaining his sound Fitrah (innate disposition) for his own interest and for that of his parents as well.

Allaah Knows best.
