The harmful radiation of cellphones to bees and some animals

Question

Assalamoalaikum, I want to know that is it permissible to use cell phones and internet for calling, making money online, halal entrtainment and study purpose as cell phone radiations are very very harmful for bees and many other animals, Also Allah swt says in Quran that-EVIL SIGNS HAVE APPEARED ON LAND BECAUSE OF WHAT HUMANS HAVE EARNED THROUGH OPPRESSION AND EVIL DEEDS. Is it not a kind of opression on other creatures of Allah?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

There is no harm in using cell phones and the internet; using them – if they are only employed in carrying out lawful activities – does not constitute oppression or causing mischief on earth. It is not deemed prohibited to use them merely because the radiations harm the bees or many animals, as the questioner claims. Even if we assumed that this is correct, it is not deemed prohibited to use them because the benefits for using them significantly outweigh the supposed harms. In addition, the consequent harms incurred by banning them are much greater than the harms incurred by using them.

You can simply imagine the resulting harm and hardship incurred if people are denied these modern technologies. Verily, the Islamic Sharee‘ah fosters creating ease and relieving hardship and difficulty from the lives of people, not invoking them. Moreover, the basic principle is that it is permissible for people to avail themselves of any of the beneficial new technologies. This is not deemed impermissible because of a potential evil incurred or even an actual evil, if avoiding this actual evil will lead to a graver evil.

It should be noted that exaggeration in respecting animal rights has incurred evils in many countries all over the world. In India, for instance, a law has been enacted to ban the killing of harmful animals such as serpents, snakes, leopards in order to preserve their rights. The concerned authority requests that people should contact them if attacked by any of these animals to move them to another place. They regard the rights of these predatory animals the same as those of humans, whom Allaah has chosen as a successor on earth to populate and construct it by worshipping Him! There is no doubt that such exaggeration is a dispraised matter that has brought about harm on people, although the Sharee‘ah advised killing harmful animals (and insects) such as snakes, scorpions, and mordacious dogs.

Muslim jurists stated the permissibility of killing all inherently harmful animals such as lions, tigers, leopards, and all beasts of prey, vermin, and the intrinsically harmful insects in order to safeguard humans from harm.

Allaah Knows best.
