Pray for guidance for a non-Muslim instead of praying against him

Question

Salam alaikum! I own a small business. I employed one of my friends who belonged to middle class family. He is a non muslim. I pay him a decent salary and allowances including a new car, license, food. Since he is my friend he tells me that this salary is very low. he tells that tthe salary i am giving him is nothing for him .I get so frustrated and angry when i hear this. Can I make dua against him so that Allah makes his rizq very much constricted?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There is no need to make Du‘aa’ against this person; please refer to Fatwa 130288. It would be better to make Du‘aa’ that Allaah guides him to Islam and strive to help him find the straight path. ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said to him when he sent him to Khaybar: “Then, invite them to Islam; by Allaah, that Allaah guides a single person by you is better for you than red camels.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

For more benefit, please refer to Fatwas 86169, 81979 and 88906 about inviting non-Muslims to Islam.

We draw your attention to the fact that Muslims should hire pious Muslim workers who are competent and trustworthy; reliable Muslim workers should be given priority over non-Muslims. Allaah, The Exalted, says (what means): {Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy.} [Quran 28:26] Also, Muslims should beware of befriending non-Muslims; please refer to Fatwa 88293.

Allaah Knows best.
