Question

Assalamu Alaikum once prophet (pbuh) climbed onto a hill with his companions while the hill was vibrating.Prophet(PBUH) hit on it with his leg and said,"Stop vibration, o' hill, do you know who are with me. I would like to know who were with him.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Qataadah may Allaah have mercy upon him narrated on the authority of Anas ibn Maalik may Allaah be pleased with him that "The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, once climbed Mount Uhud with Abu Bakr, ‘Umar and ‘Uthmaan. The mountain shook them so he (the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said (to the mountain), 'Be firm, O Uhud! For upon you is a Prophet, a Siddeeq and two martyrs." [Al-Bukhari]

Another version of the same Hadeeth reads, "The mountain shook, and he (the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: 'Be still, Uhud' – I (the narrator of this Hadeeth) think he struck it with his foot.." [Al-Bukhari]

The version cited by At-Tirmithi may Allaah have mercy upon him on the authority of ‘Uthmaan may Allaah be pleased with him reads, "…so the mountain moved until its stones were falling downhill. So he kicked it with his foot and said: 'Be still, Thabeer, for upon you are a Prophet, a Siddeeq and two martyrs.'"

The obvious sense of the Hadeeth is that those with him were Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, and ‘Uthmaan may Allaah be pleased with them.

Shams-ul-Haqq may Allaah have mercy upon him said in ‘Awn Al-Ma‘bood: "The Hadeeth means that 'upon you are a Prophet, a Siddeeq, i.e. Abu Bakr, and two martyrs i.e. ‘Umar and ‘Uthmaan may Allaah be pleased with them. The shaking of Mount Uhud was out of pride (of being favored by carrying those four blessed men)." [End of quote]

Allaah Knows best.
