asalam I intend to study online and I wonder whether is it permissible to be taught from a non muslim woman online (there is teaching one to one coaching and other with multiple people like a webinar ? and is it permissible to watch the news in tv when the journalist is non muslim woman and the second question is ;is it permissible to listen to a female voice I mean I am learning a language and when I wanna listen to the pronunciation of a word ,there is a female voice who pronounce the word or the text to give you an example here is a website for the voice http://www.fromtexttospeech.com/ and there is another website tha shows the mouth of the non muslim woman pronouncing the word on video
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
We have already clarified that a young man studying at the hands of a female involves many points of concern associated with the religion. Please refer to Fataawa 47167 and 115043. This is in regard to direct studying. Studying via the Internet is also a point of concern, so one should be careful and cautious.
Studying as part of a group is safer in all cases, and if it is possible to be taught by a man, it would be better and safer.
Regarding watching the news when the newsreader is a woman, please refer to Fatwa 90296.
The voice of a woman does not have to be covered, so there is no blame in hearing her voice when she speaks provided she is not speaking in an attractive or soft manner. As regards seeing her mouth, if there is a necessity and there is no lust, there is no blame in that, Allaah willing, as the scholars have permitted looking at a woman's face when buying and selling and during other considerable needs.
