Supplications in the occasion of marriage

Question

I am a twenty-one-year-old religious girl and there is a young man who wants to propose to me. I told my mother, but his mother opposes this marriage, therefore, I resorted to Allaah Exalted Whom I ask to Help me out. Can you, please, provide me with supplications and suggested righteous deeds so that Allaah, the Exalted, Would Grant me success and this man’s mother would agree on our marriage?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

We do not know of any specific supplication for your case, however, you can supplicate Allaah, the Exalted, with what was reported of the supplications for seeking the help and success from Allaah Almighty. It was narrated on the authority of Anas may Allaah be pleased with him that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said:

Allaahumma la sahla illa ma ja‘altahu sahla, wa anta taj‘alu al-hazn sahlan in shi’t (O Allaah, there is nothing easy except what You Have Rendered easy, and You Render the difficult easy if it be Your Will). [Ibn Hibbaan; Saheeh]

Furthermore, Anas may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said to his daughter Faatimah may Allaah be pleased with her:

"Do not leave reciting this Thikr every morning and evening: ‘Ya Hayyu ya Qayyoom birahmatika astagheeth, aslih li sha’ni kullahu wala takilni ‘ila nafsi tarfata ‘ayn (O Allaah, the Ever-Living, O Eternal, by Your Mercy I seek assistance. Rectify all my affairs and Do not Leave me to myself even for a blink of an eye).” [An-Nasaa’i]

However, it is worth mentioning that we urge you to seek a religious husband who is of good morals, or else there is no good in marrying such a man. It is better for you to beseech Allaah Almighty in supplication to enable you to marry a religious husband of good morals; for if such a husband loved you, he would honor and treasure you duly, and if he did not, he would not wrong you.

Allaah Knows best.
