Ruling on wearing high heels

Question

What is the Sharee'ah ruling on wearing high heels by girls?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

According to principle, all types of shoes and clothes are permissible unless there is a reason that makes them forbidden or disliked. These reasons include:

- The worn object certainly causes harm or is most likely to cause harm.

- The worn object is specific to non-Muslims in such a way that it is worn only by those who are influenced by them. But if it is worn by all people, it is not regarded as imitation of non-Muslims.

- The worn object is highly attractive.

If the high heels are free from all these reasons and, further, they are not a means of adornment in themselves, or they are a means of adornment but covered with the outer garment, then they are permissible to wear. However, it is more prudent that a Muslim avoids doubtful matters.

Allaah Knows best.
