Question
Is it permissible to use soap containing chemically treated swine fat?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
If the swine fat is chemically treated until it has changed to another substance to be used as one of the components of soap, this is permissible. According to the preponderant opinion of the scholars, when the impure substance is transform into another, this renders it pure.
Nevertheless, if the swine fat is used in soap as it is, this soap is impure and consequently using, selling or buying it is unlawful.
