Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

There are two kinds of insurance:

First: Commercial insurance based on deception and gambling, and we have already explained in many Fatawa that it is not permissible for a person to participate in it voluntarily; health insurance is like other types of commercial insurance.

Second: Cooperative insurance. There is nothing wrong with participating in it voluntarily and benefiting from its services.

For more benefit on cooperative insurance, please refer to Fatawa 98857, 320428 and 82078.

For more benefit on the prohibition of commercial insurance, please refer to Fatawa 361417, 164309, 164145, 81425 and 156333.

Allah knows best.
