Is it permissible to effect treatment by reading the Quran on molten lead?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
The treatment under Sharee`ah (Islamic legislation) for anyone who is affected by an evil eye or any other type of harm is Ruqyah which consists of reciting verses of the Quran, supplications from the Sunnah (tradition), or the Names and Attributes of Allaah The Almighty, based on the Quran and Sunnah.
It is narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, permitted Ruqyah as long as it did not include any act of Shirk (polytheism). [Muslim]
As-Suyooti quoted the consensus of scholars concerning the permissibility of Ruqyah if three conditions are met: The Ruqyah has to include the Words of Allaah The Almighty, His Names and Attributes; to be to be deemed as intrinsically ineffective; and only effective by the will of Allaah The Almighty.
Reading the Quran is generally beneficial. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And We send down of the Quran that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.}[Quran 17:82]
However, melting lead for the purpose of treatment has no basis in the Quran or the Sunnah. Therefore, it is not a Ruqyah that is valid under Sharee‘ah. It might be a traditional custom in your country, since some people believe that metals are effective in removing the harm of an evil eye.
