Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Cats are pure as proved in al-Muattha, al-Musnad and in the other books of Sunan from Abu Qatadah that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said regarding a cat: "It is not impure; it is one of those (males or females) who go round among you" . Therefore, the prayer beside or near cats is valid. However, one should avoid from its urine and dung since they are impure.
