Question

Is it allowed to wipe over the turban, as we do socks?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Wiping over the head is among the obligatory acts of the Wudu (ablution). No prayer is valid without Wudu and no Wudu is valid without wiping over the head. The Muslim scholars have different opinions concerning the minimum limit that is compulsory for wiping the head. Some believe that wiping the whole head from ear to ear and from forehead to the back of his head is compulsory, some others are of the opinion that wiping over one fourth of the head is compulsory.
Some others believe that wiping only over a part of the head is required.
The correct opinion is that Allah ordered to wipe over the head and this expression means all the head; also the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) used to wipe over his whole head. Therefore, one should follow this practice except if one has a turban and has difficulty in removing it for wiping. In this case, he may wipe over his forehead and turban. al-Mughira bin Shu'ba said: "The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) made Wudu and wiped over his forehead and over his turban" [Reported by Imams Muslim and Abu Dawood ].
Allah knows best.
