Question

Some body told me a Du'a to read before my exams. I want to confirm if this Du'a is good and it is not an innovation to read it. Please check it and then confirm it. "Allahumma Inna Ja'alnaak Fi Nuhoorihim Wa Na'uoozubika Min Shuroorihim".

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

There is not any especial Du'a to be supplicated at the time of exams. In fact, a student needs the Blessings and Help of Allah in this time and indeed in all other times. So, he should choose the supplications that suit this occasion. Some of such supplications are what is proved from the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) that he used to pronounce these words: "O Ever Living, O Self-Subsisting and Supporter of all, by Your Mercy I seek assistance, solve for me all of my problems and do not leave me to myself, even for the blink of an eye" [ al-Tirmizi and its chain is sound].
Also the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) used to say: "O Allah, there is nothing easy save what you make easy; and you make the hard easy whenever you want to do so". Ibn Hibban reported it from Anas and graded it as sound.
Imam Muslim narrated from Ali (Radiya Allahu Anhu) that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) taught him to say: "O Allah, Guide me and make me correct" .
Allah knows best.
