Owns restaurant with pork on the menu

Question

We own a Subway restaurant which is a part of an international company. Part of its menu has pork. Is this Halal or Haram?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. It is unlawful for the Muslim to trade in pork, alcohol and other forbidden things. Al-Bukhari and Muslim reported on the authority of Jabir bin Abdillah who said that he heard the Messenger of Allah saying in the year of conquest in Makkah, "Indeed, Allah and His Messenger have forbidden the sale of wine, pork and idols" . For more details, please see Fatawa: 83645 and 83850. If your restaurant serves pork, that is unlawful because of the aforementioned evidence. But if the menu only contains pork without serving it, that is also not right, because it is a lie. That might even give a bad impression about the Muslims, because somebody may say: "The Muslims are forbidding eating pork and yet they are trading in it". Allah knows best.
