Question
In Islam should parents choose their children's careers? Or should the children choose for themselves?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
The right of children on their parents is to be raised by them and be educated in matters that are useful for them in their mundane affairs and religion as well. Teaching a child any profession or craft or any occupation that helps him earn his living in future is also among the responsibilities of the parents. However, after becoming mature, a child is free to change his profession or to choose the one that suits his capability or that is useful for him. The parents do not have the right to force him to work in a specific field or do a specific work against his will.
