Making Du'a for brother

Question

I am a married lady with three children. I live with my husband away from home, Egypt. My problem is back in Egypt where my only brother is a drug addict. He was put in hospital for 6 times and every time he comes out and is fine for some time. Then he takes this drug which changes him and his life. He gets like a wild creature breaking everything. He has a wife and 2 small kids. All of his family are supportive and even his friends. My mother died broken - hearted and due to cancer. After leaving the hospital a year and a half ago, he started reading Qur'an, praying regularly, his life changed completely for the better and he got a job. A week ago, he started it again and totally destroyed his flat. His wife fled with the kids. The police arrested him as he broke a car when he was throwing some furniture from the window. The police sent him to a lunatic asylum for observation for 45 days. In his hallucination, he reads the Qur'an in a strange way and says that there are geniis who are there. Do you think that he could be touched by geniis? This is my first question and my second is: how can I help him being away from home, considering that my husband is fed up from the whole story and from my sadness? What or what Du’a can get us out of this crisis? Please guide me. May Allah guide us to the right path.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {So keep your duty to Allâh and fear Him as much as you can;….}[64:16]. Allah also Says (interpretation of meaning): {Allâh burdens not a person beyond his scope..}[2:286]. Allah further Says (interpretation of meaning): {….Allâh puts no burden on any person beyond what He has given him..}[65:7].

Try to help your brother according to your ability and in a way not to break your relationship with your husband.

Make a supplication (Du’a) for him whatever Du’a you wish to make in his absence, as there is no special Du’a to make. May Allah save him from this great affliction.

Indeed drug abuse is a great affliction and a widespread mischief which affects the person and the people around him especially the relatives.

In relation to whether your brother has a Jinn or not, we cannot determine that. You can refer him to trustworthy people who make Ruqya in your country.

Allah knows best.
