Question

If you had done something wrong, against religion, really bad at the time, and intestinally did it. But now regret it. What should you do?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

If a person commits a sin he/she has to repent from it, and whoever repents to Allaah, Allaah will accept his repentance. Sincere repentance has some conditions; in addition to regretting the sin, you have to refrain from doing it again and be determined not to return to it in the future. If this sin is committed against another human being, then you have to seek forgiveness from him/her and return their rights to them. Thereafter, you have to perform many good deeds. Allaah says (which means): {And whoever repents and does good; then verily, he repents towards Allah with true repentance.}[25:71].

Finally, you should abandon the bad environment that would incite you to commit the same sin again.

Allaah knows best.
