Fatwa CenterLength of time fixed for prayer after the Athaan
Question
Could you please tell me how long after the Athaan do we have to pray? I have heard that you need to pray within 90 minutes after hearing the Athaan. Is this true?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
We are obliged to perform the prayer within its prescribed fixed time and not within 90 minutes or less or more after the Athaan. It is an obligation to perform each prayer at its prescribed fixed time; the time for each prayer is discussed in details in Fatwa: 82907.
Finally, it should be noted that it is better to perform the prayer at the beginning of its time as this is being quick in performing the commandments of Allaah, and it is forbidden to delay the prayer from its time.
