Du'aa for reducing extreme rainfall

Question

I just wanted to know the Du'aa when there is extreme rain which may cause flood.

Answer

Praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

Imaam Al-Bukhari said in a chapter entitled "Invocation for stopping of rain" and mentioned the following narration: "A man came to Allaah's messenger and said, "O Allaah's Apostle! Livestock are destroyed and food has vanished (i.e. due to the drought). So please invoke Allaah." So Allaah's Apostle implored and it rained from that Friday to the next Friday. Then he (the same man) came to Allaah's Apostle I and said, "O Allaah's Apostle! Houses have collapsed, roads are cut off and the livestock are destroyed." So, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) prayed, [Allaahumma hawaalaynaa walaa 'Alaynaa, Allaahumma 'Alal-aakaami wath-thiraabi, wa butoonil-awdiyaah, wa manaabitish-shajar. ‘O Allaah, let the rain fall around us and not upon us, O Allaah, (let it fall) on the pastures, hills, valleys and the roots of trees.’] So, the rain stopped..."

Allaah Knows best.
