Asked to alter bills in his company

Question

I work in a private company and am very disturbed. When billing the principals, I'm ordered to add amounts which have no reality and most of the times, the company bribes personals order get away from fines/duties.
Yet, we bill the principals in full and sometimes more. I have been thinking of resigning from this job sake Allaah, if I do so I know Allaah will reward me.
On the other hand, I have three children Saleem 7, Lubna 6 and Muna 1, my wife is an orphan, we live in a rented house, my only means of earnings is this job. Leaving the job, I will not be able to pay the rent and feed my family and staying on the job I'm not comfortable.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

We do not know exactly what you mean by your question, however, what we can say is that you are not involved with the briberies that the administration of the company is doing. So there is no harm on you to continue working there as long as the company does not ask you to participate in any forbidden work. With regard to the bills that you are asked to increase their amount, if this causes harm to others then it is not permissible for you to obey them, as Allaah Says (which means): {but do not help one another in sin and transgression.}[Quran 5:2]. Moreover, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Do not harm yourselves and do not cause harm to others." [Ibn Maajah]

In case you remain in this job, you are obliged to refrain from any type of work which causes harm to others or take their money without a right. If you are unable to do so, then you are obliged to leave this work immediately; Allaah Says (which means): {And whoever fears Allaah—He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect.}[Quran 65:2-3]. You have to supplicate Allaah as much as possible to guide you and enable you to do good and suffice you with what is lawful as opposed to what is unlawful.

Nonetheless, if you meant something other than what we understood, then you may clarify that for us and we will respond to you accordingly.

Allaah Knows best.
