Question
What is the ruling on a woman who goes out with her fiancé before the marriage contract?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
It is not permissible for a woman to go out with her fiancé before the marriage contract, as in this case he is a marriageable man to her and he is like all other marriageable men to her. However, it is not permissible for any other man to propose to this woman for marriage after she agreed to marry him, this is what distinguishes him from others. Otherwise, it is not permissible for him to enjoy her by looking at her, or being in seclusion with her, or going out with her except after the marriage contract is signed.
