Question
Asalaamu Caleykum W.W Im currently a Canadian Student in Ottawa Canada. I have a conterversial question regarding if it ok to take part of Lifeguarding. I will be finishing my National Lifeguard Service by the end of this summer INSHALLAHand I was wondering if I can work as a lifeguard in the summer to pay off my tuition. My intention is to save people by the will of ALLAh and not to look at various girl with the intention of doing something with them. So please can you fill me in with this fatwa. JAZAKALLAHU Khair
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
It is religiously established that it is not permissible for a Muslim to go to a place where a sin or evil is taking place unless with the intention of stopping it and the like. Allaah Says (what means): {And it has already come down to you in the Book [i.e. the Quran] that when you hear the verses of Allaah [recited] they are denied [by them] and ridiculed; so do not sit with them until they enter into another conversation. Indeed, you would then be like them. Indeed, Allaah will gather the hypocrites and disbelievers in Hell all together.}[Quran 4:140]. Moreover, a Muslim does not know whether or not Allaah will inflict the sinners with His Punishment while he is with them, and so he dies with them. Allaah Says (what means): {And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its affluent but they defiantly disobey therein; so the word [i.e. deserved decree] comes into effect upon it, and We destroy it with [complete] destruction.}[Quran 17:16]. It is also confirmed that Zaynab Bint Jahsh 
inquired: "O Prophet of Allaah, will we be punished while there are pious and righteous people amongst us? The Prophet replied: ''Yes, when evil is widespread." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Therefore, it is not permissible for you to work in this place where evil and Zina (fornication or adultery) take place at times. Allaah may compensate you with a better job; because when a person leaves something for the Sake of Allaah, Allaah will compensate him with something better.
