Salam, my friends in the mosque are somewhat strict in Islam, especially when it comes to sunnah they advice me to wear Qamis or Juba everytime even if it is not in the mosque, but now Im living in Zamboanga city, Philippines, were in this city most people are westernize and if I wear those things people will start looking at me like Im a celebrity, which is an embarassment for me, so I wear casual clothing with muslim cap, but my friends and other Islamic mentors in a Madrasa are teasing me because i only wear muslim cap not with the qamis, so they say that Im into temptation (Fitnah) of not wearing the sunnah of Rasulullah (SAW). are my friends and my uztadz correct?, is this a sin for me not wearing the sunnah of Rasulullah (SAW) like the qamis? please advice...
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Wearing the Qamis (long shirt) and covering the head are a Sunnah of the Prophet but they are not a Waajib (obligation).
A Muslim is not obliged to wear a particular dress; any clothes which are not peculiar to the non-Muslims or to women, are permissible for men to wear as long as they cover the 'Awrah (parts of the body that must be covered in Islam) and provided it is not silk.
