Question
Slam Alicoum,
Why do I find it so easy not to cheat?
Are cheaters born cheaters, or do certain situations cause people to cheat?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
Man is born susceptible to good and evil, and the surrounding environment drives him to one of the two ways unless Allaah The Almighty Wants something else for him.
In fact, the conditions and circumstances that surround man may influence his behavior; yet, this cannot be an excuse for him to commit what is unlawful, particularly after he knows it to be unlawful and the evidence on that is established for him. There are many Quranic verses and Prophetic Ahaadeeth supporting this fact.
Indeed, Allaah The Almighty has favored the questioner brother with His Guidance and prevented him from cheating, hence, he has to be grateful to Allaah for this blessing. He should ask Allaah The Almighty to Keep him firm on truthfulness and away from lying and cheating. For further information, see Fatwa 94463.
