Ruling on touching liquor containers

Question

What is the Islamic ruling on touching empty liquor bottles; for I work as a maid for foreign women who do not fast Ramadhaan?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

If the liquor bottle is empty and there is no fluid alcohol in it, then it is permissible to touch such bottles. Muslim scholars hold different opinions on touching liquor bottles if they have traces of alcohol that might cling to the hand, the place, or the clothes, and whether they are considered impure or not. However, the majority of Muslim jurists have decreed that alcohol is inherently impure, and this is the preponderant opinion.

We would like to advise you, dear questioner, to quit working for these foreign women who do not fast Ramadan and shun serving them. A Muslim woman, who believes in Allaah The Exalted and His Messenger and fasts Ramadan, should not humiliate herself by working for such people. Indeed, Allaah The Exalted will reward you with what is better and Will confer upon you a better job. Allaah The Exalted Says (what means): {And whoever fears Allaah – He Will Make for him a way out, * And Will Provide for him from where he does not expect.} [Quran 65:2-3]

Allaah Knows best.
