Purifying clothes stained with mathi

Question

Assalaamu alaykum. Thank you very much for answering my question, but, please, I want more clarification. In that question, question 2598062, I already stated that at first I used some clothes and then stopped that and then used sticky tape to absorb the madhi (prostatic fluid) in the past. However, this brought a lot of inconvenience to me, and it will be difficult to wash the madhi off my clothes and body or change the clothes when I am outside the house. I told you that I spend most of my day outside the house. Please, when it is time for prayers, can I just wash my private parts and perform ablution for the prayers? May Allaah bless you for your wonderful work.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

According to the consensus of the scholars, mathi (prostatic fluid) is impure and must be washed from the body before the prayer, and one has to wash his private parts from it as well.

As regards the clothes that are stained with it, there is a difference of opinion about it among the scholars. The majority of the scholars are of the view that it must be washed to an extent that one is certain that the impurity is removed.

Some scholars hold the view that it is sufficient to splash water over the clothes that are stained with mathi and that it is not an obligation to wash it as a way of making things easier for the worshiper.

Ibn al-Qayyim may Allaah have mercy upon him said in Ighaathat al-Lahfaan, “The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) was asked about mathi, and he ordered performing ablution from it. He was asked, 'What about my clothes that are stained with it?' He replied, 'Take a handful of water and splash it where you see that they are stained with it.' [Ahmad, at-Tirmithi and An-Nasaa’i] So the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) permitted splashing water over what is stained with mathi in the like manner that he ordered to splash the urine of the young boy. Our Shaykh (Ibn Taymiyyah) said, “' This is the right thing to do, because this is an impurity that is difficult to avoid due to the fact that this happens too much to the clothes of single young men, and it is more proper to facilitate this thing for them than facilitating the matter of the urine of the boy and the bottom of leather socks and shoes.” [End of quote]

This is the view that we adopt here in Islamweb. Therefore, if you have mathi discharge, then you have to wash your private parts and wash the part of your body that is stained with the impurity. It is sufficient to take a handful of water and splash it on your clothes. After doing so, you do not have to change your clothes as they have become pure.

Allaah knows best.
