Suspects mother practices magic

Question

Hi, I am a 15-year-old boy, and I live with my parents and siblings. My parents argue a lot, and my dad is usually wrong. However, my dad always tells my mum to stop putting black magic on us (our family). I am a Muslim, and I thought that that was a bit weird, but I recently saw my mum hide these little papers. They had small boxes containing writing that resembles Arabic but is not Arabic. I looked this up, and black magic came up. Is this black magic? Why would my mum do this? Everyone in my family is Muslim; my mum even prays. I looked up signs of black magic, and many of those are seen in my siblings behavior as well as mine. I saw some horrible things that I cannot un-see, un-remember. What should I do? Tell my dad? Who should I talk to? Please help me, Brother or Sister. Thank you; it would be much appreciated.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

It is impermissible for you or your father to accuse your mother of practicing magic without clear evidence. The basic principle is that she is innocent of that. Allaah, The Exalted, says (what means): {O you who have believed, avoid much (negative) assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin...} [Quran 49:12]

The papers that you found do not necessarily contain a magic spell. Even if it is actually a magic spell, there is no proof that your mother is the one who made this spell for you. You should not inform your father of what you have seen as long as you are not absolutely sure that it is a magical spell, for that would escalate the problems between them.

If a person fears being under a spell of magic, then he should seek remedy through lawful methods such as reciting ruqyah (healing through Quran and supplication) if he can, and this is the best method. Otherwise, he may seek the help of a pious and devout Muslim to recite it over him. Please refer to fatwa 82918 about how to recite ruqyah for the treatment of magic.

The Muslim should keenly shield himself against such perils (with the remembrance of Allaah), especially by reciting the reported thikr (expressions of remembrance of Allaah) in the morning so as to protect himself against the evils of the devils of mankind and jinn all day long and by reciting the reported thikr in the evening so as to protect himself from their evil all night long.

Allaah knows best.
