Blood of Istihaadhah is impure

Question

Is the blood of Istihaadhah (vaginal bleeding outside the menstrual period) pure or impure? What is the evidence?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

The majority of scholars from the four schools of Islamic Jurisprudence and others unanimously agree that spilled blood is impure. This includes blood of Istihaadhah (the vaginal bleeding outside the menstrual period). That is because it spills out and comes from one of the excretory organs. Al-Kaasaani may Allaah have mercy upon him a Hanafi scholar, stated the types of impurities and mentioned the blood of Istihaadhah as one of them. He said: “Likewise, the blood of menstruation, post-partum bleeding and vaginal bleeding outside the menstrual period, for all are impure.

Allaah Knows best.
