Is joint family system not permissible in Islam? What are the obligations on men to in such a case when he has financial constraints? Please reply in detail with reference to Quran and Hadees.
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
It is a religious obligation upon a person to provide for themselves and for those whom they are legally required to support, such as a spouse, children, and parents, as clearly explained in the books of the Muslim scholars.
However, if a group of adult and rational individuals voluntarily agree to share financial responsibilities and divide expenses among themselves according to each person's ability, there is no harm in that, as long as it is done willingly. But if any of them wishes to handle their own expenses independently, they have the right to do so.
As for someone who is unable to cover their own expenses, then their financial support becomes obligatory upon those who are legally required to provide for them, such as a child or a parent.
Lastly, if someone who is not legally required to provide for them chooses to do so willingly, there is no harm in that.
Allah knows best.
