Fatwa CenterConcerned about the Awrah
Question
To all my fellow Muslim. I've a question here. Why do Muslims now are not concerned about their Awrah especially among sisters?
Answer
All Perfect Praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may He exalt the mention of Prophet Muhammad as well as all his Family and Companions.
One of the tribulations that affect many Muslim women and some Muslim men is being very careless regarding their clothing. They do not properly cover the Awrah (parts of the body which must be covered in Islam) as it should be covered.
There are many reasons for this negligence, among which are the following:
Firstly, the weakness of faith, which is one of the greatest reasons for transgressing the limits of Allaah. When there is no Imaan, there is no shyness.
Al-Bukhari reported in Al-Aadaab Al-Mufrad that the Prophet (
) said: "Imaan and timidity are inter-related, if one of them is withdrawn, the other is automatically withdrawn as well."
Secondly, the callers to Allaah do not fulfill their duty as they should. Therefore, ignorance is widespread among the Muslims and there is negligence about the truth.
Thirdly, the guardians are not fulfilling their duty of their guardianship. Allaah Says (interpretation of meaning): {O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell)…}[66:6].
It is confirmed that the Prophet () said: "The husband is a guardian of his family (wife and children) and he will be questioned about them." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Fourthly, the cultural and moral invasion that the Muslims are experiencing from their enemies who beautify for them Satan's path and drive them away from Allaah's straight and righteous path.
