Fatwa CenterFinancially unable to marry a second wife but he fears to be tempted
Question
I like to marry a second wife but I do not have the money for this. I am married and I have two girls, what should I do as I fear to be tempted [by other women] because my wife is sick?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
If you are financially unable to marry a second wife but you fear to be tempted by other women, then you should fast as much as possible and preoccupy your time with beneficial things, like seeking knowledge and mentioning Allaah. Furthermore, you should refrain from going to places of afflictions and temptations, so you should not go to mixed places like markets and other places which could arouse one’s desires, except for a necessity.
