Assalaamu alaykum. The majority of the scholars say that praying in congregation is a highly-regarded action of the Sunnah, but that it is not obligatory. I live in a small city with no mosques, there is only a small Islamic community with a small masjid, which I believe is inside their own house. However, I never go there because I do not feel comfortable with these people. They could be deviants or innovators, or even disbelievers (Allah knows best).
